Tell us about yourself.
I am the CEO of Hartlepool & Stockton Health GP Federation in Tees Valley. We are a membership organisation, with the aim of supporting our 30 practices and seven PCNs, working closely with our partners, and delivering gold standard services at scale for local people.
What’s your role for the PCC?
For the PCC, I perform the role of Co-Chair, with a special interest in communications and engagement, and workforce.
Why did you want to get involved?
My early career was outside healthcare, but once I joined I soon became a great believer in the power of primary care, and the importance of those trusted relationships that people develop with their GPs, nurses and the practice team. As ICBs formed and CCGs disbanded, I felt really strongly that the healthcare system might unintentionally lose that voice because of the fragmented nature of primary care in general. Pulling together a Collaborative seemed a good way to make sure that didn’t happen, while building relationships and learning from each other to improve the care we all offer.
What are your hopes for what the PCC might achieve?
I have learnt so much about how Pharmacy, Dentistry and Optometry operate, and the full PCC team including CDs, LMCs and Federations has become a positive and rewarding part of my work.
Working with our NECS colleagues has given us practical support to make a difference in the priority areas we have agreed, and I feel that we are developing a partnership with the NENC ICB. My aim is that this helps us to deliver better care for people who live in the North East and North Cumbria.
