Tracey Lucas

General Practice CLINICAL DIRECTOR Member

Tell us about yourself.

I am a GP partner in Deerness Park Medical Group in Sunderland and am the clinical director for the Sunderland East PCN which covers a population of 50K patients. I am also one of the ICB clinical leads for the region. I have been a GP since 2005, and previously worked as a paediatric doctor when I first moved to the beautiful northeast which is now home. I also am one of the directors of Sunderland GP alliance which is a practice owned federation for all the practices in Sunderland. I previously worked as a governing body member and elected GP for Sunderland CCG for many years and have enjoyed working collaboratively with wider system partners in acute, social and community care around urgent and intermediate care delivery. I am also a GP trainer.

What’s your role for the PCC?

I am a committee member of the PCC in my role as a clinical director of a PCN to help reflect the views of working GPs and PCNs on the committee.

Why did you want to get involved?

I feel strongly about the value of primary care and our ability to provide pro active , preventative and excellent care and felt that we should be well represented as an equal partner in our health care system at regional level. Most of the contacts in health care take place outside the hospital and it’s important we have a strong collective voice at regional level.

What are your hopes for what the PCC might achieve?

That together we can provide a strong regional voice that will help primary care (General practice, pharmacy, optometry and dentistry) to be strong and sustainable and to work more collaboratively for our patients. I think we have lots to learn from one another and it’s been great to have conversations with other members of the PCC. We are also discovering that our challenges at times are similar and collectively we would have a better chance of finding solutions.
