Celebrating excellence in primary care: The General Practice Awards

The General Practice Awards took place on Saturday 8th March at Hardwick Hall, recognising and celebrating the outstanding achievements of individuals and teams working within primary care.
These awards highlight the dedication, innovation, and hard work of healthcare professionals who strive to improve patient care and community health services.
Hartlepool & Stockton Health GP Federation (H&SH) proudly hosts this celebration of the successes of local general practice. At this year’s awards, several individuals and teams were recognised for their exceptional contributions to primary care. With eight categories honouring excellence, the awards recognise:
- Administrator of the year
- Nursing team member of the year
- GP of the year
- Practice Manager of the year (jointly awarded to winners from Eaglescliffe Medical Practice and Thornaby and Barwick Medical Group—one in their first two years and another with over 20 years of service)
- ARRS team member of the year
- Unsung hero of the year (awarded to a Billingham practice nurse who joined the Federation team to run Menopause clinics, training to a high standard and receiving outstanding patient feedback)
- H&SH team member of the year
- Practice of the year (awarded to West View Millennium in Hartlepool, celebrating their 25th year).
This year’s ceremony brought together 150 attendees from local general practice, the Federation, and PCNs. A total of 270 nominations were received, with 42 individuals and teams making the shortlist. The final winners were selected through a rigorous voting process by a panel of six judges.
The event not only honours excellence but also fosters a sense of community among healthcare professionals, offering an opportunity to share knowledge and celebrate success. By shining a spotlight on the vital work within primary care, the General Practice Awards play a crucial role in promoting excellence and encouraging continuous development in the healthcare sector.
